Language Arts
2nd grade: We continue to work on contractions and have started a unit on folktales. We have been discussing opinions and are working on opinion writing.
3rd grade: We are working on a unit on folktales, fables and myths. We are also working on opinion writing.
Spelling/Word Study
Spelling tests will normally be on Fridays. In addition to words that focus on a spelling pattern or prefix/suffix, we will also include high frequency words. Words to be tested on Friday, Jan. 16:
2nd grade (-or): orbit, short, story, horse, resort; high frequency words: him, will, one, two, three
3rd grade (root "port" meaning "to carry"): export, import, support, portable, porter; high frequency words: young, during, morning, group, turned
Math
2nd grade: We are working on measuring length. We have explored different tools used to measure (ruler, yardstick, measuring tape). We have even traced our bodies and measured how tall we are!
3rd grade: We are working on area and perimeter, as well as solidifying our understanding of multiplication and division.
SS/Science
2nd grade: We are studying Martin Luther King, jr., and the Civil Rights Movement.
3rd grade: We are studying Franklin D. Roosevelt. We have been working primarily on vocabulary and will start learning more about important contributions by FDR, as well as learning about his wife Eleanor.
